An attempt to illegally export pine lumber through the Tisa checkpoint was stopped in Transcarpathia
Detectives from the Territorial Administration of the Economic Security Bureau in Zakarpattia region stopped an attempt to illegally export a batch of timber from Ukraine through the Tisa checkpoint on the border with Hungary.
The investigation established that one of the companies planned to export a batch of pine sawn timber abroad. For customs clearance, documents with inaccurate data on the quantity, cost and actual volume of goods were submitted to the controlling authorities.
During the inspection of the vehicle and cargo, detectives from the Economic Security Bureau established that the actual characteristics of the sawn timber did not match the data specified in the accompanying documents.
As a result of the measures taken, a batch of pine lumber with a volume of almost 40 cubic metres was seized. The approximate value of the seized timber is about half a million hryvnias.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The case concerns the smuggling of timber and valuable tree species.
The circle of persons involved in the organisation of illegal exports, as well as the origin of the seized timber, is currently being established.
