The Ministry of Defence has introduced a new combat contract as part of the transformation of the Defence Forces. It provides for 24 months’ service, a guaranteed deferral following the end of the contract, and differentiated payments depending on the level of risk and the location of the mission.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has announced the terms of the new combat contract.

The new combat contract is available to conscripts and serving military personnel.

It is intended for specialists who are not included in the list of posts for the infantry-assault contract. This includes, in particular, UAV pilots, operators of ground-based robotic systems, electronic warfare specialists, artillerymen and other specialists.

The term of service under this contract is 24 months.

What deferment is guaranteed after service?

Upon completion of the contract, the service member is granted a guaranteed basic deferral of 6 months.

An additional deferral is granted for the completion of combat missions and previous military service. One day’s deferral is added for each day spent on a combat mission. One month is added for each year of service up to 2022.

The total duration of the deferral will be determined by the combined total of all grounds.

What payments are provided for

The new contract provides for maximum payments of up to 120,000 hryvnias.

Separate combat allowances are provided for service away from the front line. Those in administrative and support roles will receive 30,000 hryvnias, those at command posts 50,000 hryvnias, and those in combat 100,000 hryvnias.

When carrying out combat duties on the front line, payments will be calculated in accordance with the terms of the infantry-assault contract.

A rear-area allowance of 10,000 hryvnias per month is also provided for.

What other payments are available?

If a contract is signed for the first time, a serviceman is paid between 27,000 and 33,000 hryvnias, depending on their military rank.

A health allowance of at least 20,000 hryvnias is also provided once a year.

Servicemen are due to receive payments under the new incentive scheme in July.

How to submit an application

You can submit applications for new contracts via the Army+ app.

Enquiries regarding new contracts can be made by calling 1519.

The new combat contract is one of three types of contract proposed as part of the transformation of the Defence Forces.

It is being introduced to establish clear terms of service, transparent payment conditions and a guaranteed deferral period following the end of the contract.
