Okamura has called for the removal of protection for Ukrainians in the Czech Republic
This was reported by GromadaCZ, citing a video message posted by the politician on Facebook
Okamura advocates the abolition of temporary protection
In the video message, Okamura stated that he supports the earliest possible termination of temporary protection for Ukrainians in the Czech Republic. At the same time, he acknowledged that current European Union legislation does not allow Prague to make such a decision independently. According to the politician, the support of other EU member states is required to change the rules. He also claims that negotiations regarding the possible termination of protection for Ukrainian men of conscription age are ongoing, although progress is difficult.
The SPD is preparing amendments to migration legislation
Okamura also reported that his party is finalising a new draft of the Aliens Act. The document, he said, will impose stricter conditions on the stay of foreigners in the Czech Republic, particularly Ukrainians with temporary protection. The politician linked the possible termination of the protection mechanism to the end of the war in Ukraine. In his view, once hostilities have ceased, Ukrainians will have to either return home or apply for other grounds for residence in the Czech Republic. At the same time, no official decisions have yet been taken by the European Union regarding the lifting of temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees.
