The Vatican's prayerful support for Ukraine has been given practical expression in the form of humanitarian aid for regions affected by shelling and winter cold.

Another shipment of humanitarian aid from Pope Leo XIV has been delivered to Ukraine, including 80 electric generators, medicines and food. The shipment was sent through the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, known as the Apostolic Almonry, on behalf of the Holy Father.

Three trucks with generators departed from St. Sophia Cathedral in Rome and have already arrived in Kyiv and Fastiv. These cities have recently suffered significant damage as a result of rocket and drone attacks on energy infrastructure. The equipment received is intended to provide heat and electricity to warming centres where people can warm up and receive hot meals.

In addition to generators, thousands of packages of medicines have arrived in Ukraine, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antihypertensive drugs, dietary supplements and melatonin. The Vatican notes that the latter is in particular demand due to the constant stress and sleep problems experienced by people living in war conditions.

The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development also announced the completion of preparations for a new humanitarian shipment. It will include additional batches of medicines and food. Upon arrival in Ukraine, the aid will be distributed through a network of parishes in various dioceses and eparchies to reach the most vulnerable communities.

The Vatican emphasises that this support is a response to appeals from bishops around the world and aims to alleviate the plight of people experiencing winter in conditions of war and the destruction of the energy system.
