Skomasas Urbonas, winner of the national maths Olympiad in Norway, has donated his entire cash prize to support Ukraine. The sum amounts to 15,000 Norwegian kroner – approximately 1,330 euros.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Skomanas Urbonas won Norway’s national maths Olympiad and received a prize of 15,000 Norwegian kroner. He decided to donate the entire sum to support the Ukrainian Defence Forces and the Ukrainian healthcare system.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Urbonas, who explained his decision as follows: he believes that evil can only prevail when good people do nothing, and that is precisely why he wanted his achievement to contribute to Ukraine’s victory.

Skantanas Urbonas’s donation was accepted by Oleksiy Gavrysh, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Norway. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the young man for his support of Ukraine, and the diplomat for his principled stance and contribution to countering Russian aggression.

A number of reports also noted that Skomantas Urbonas is a 17-year-old student. However, the statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs placed particular emphasis on his decision to donate his entire winnings to support Ukrainian defence and healthcare.

As reported by ThePublic, a lottery is being held in France where participants can win a portrait by Pablo Picasso by purchasing a ticket for €100. The proceeds will go towards Alzheimer’s disease research.
