Ukrainian poet Daria Lisich has found herself at the centre of a scandal following a public row involving blogger Yulia Verba. During a discussion on Threads, Lisich referred to Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Maria Haievska as a “chicken”, sparking a wave of outrage on social media.

This is evident from the exchange on Threads.

At the centre of the controversy is blogger Yulia Verba, whose posts showing off lavish gifts have once again sparked debate on social media during the war. There is also a separate mention of an incident in Bukovel, where, according to reports, Verba tipped a waiter in roubles.

A new scandal erupted after Yulia Verba boasted online about yet another large bouquet of roses. Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Maria Haievska reacted to this post. She noted that such content showcasing luxury seems inappropriate against the backdrop of daily tragedies at the front and constant fundraising for the army’s needs.

Poet Daria Lisich then intervened in the Threads discussion. She sided with Yulia Verba and, as the correspondence suggests, argued that everyone has a right to a private life and to receive gifts.

The argument subsequently turned personal. During the discussion, Lisich called Maria Gaevska a “bitch”. It was this remark that sparked the sharp reaction from social media users.

Reaction on social media

Following this, the poetess came under heavy criticism online. In the comments, such language was deemed unacceptable towards a female soldier, and Lisich herself was accused of disrespecting the military and being out of touch with reality.

A harsh comment from one of the military personnel also appeared in the public reaction, stating that any soldier has every moral right to criticise posts published by opinion leaders with an audience of thousands. Yulia

Verba herself has so far commented on the situation with restraint. At the same time, the blogger has previously been involved in scandals – notably over the use of the Ukrainian flag as a prop and the promotion of goods linked to the Russian Federation.

As reported by ThePublic, Olga Selikh, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman, has once again found herself at the centre of a scandal due to her appearance at an official event. This time, the issue concerns a pattern on clothing from the VoleeYu collection, which Petrykivka painting researcher Ihor Lisnyy described not as Petrykivka but as Khokhloma.
