On the evening of 24 July, police in Uzhhorod carried out a special operation to apprehend an armed man suspected of a shooting in the Shakhtynsky Forest. The suspect has already been arrested and a service pistol has been seized from him

This was reported by the police in Zakarpattia Oblast.

According to law enforcement officials, at around 6.30 pm, several children approached the police. They said they had heard gunshots coming from the direction of Shakhtyn Forest and had seen an unknown man there.

A fire broke out during the search

After receiving the report, police officers were dispatched to the scene. Whilst searching the area, they also heard the sound of gunfire. According to preliminary reports, one of the bullets may have struck an abandoned building, causing a fire. The fire subsequently spread to part of the woodland. To search for the armed man, the police launched a special operation and called in additional forces, including members of the KORD special unit.

The gunman was apprehended

The police later announced that the special operation had been concluded. The suspect was detained, and a service pistol was seized from him during a search. Investigators are currently working at the scene. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and have promised to release further information once the initial investigative measures have been completed.
