Poland is preparing to hand over MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine after technical consultations
The issue of the transfer of several Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine has been resolved, and technical consultations between Kyiv and Warsaw are currently underway. This was reported by the former Minister of National Defence of Poland Janusz Onyshkevich in a comment to Ukraine News Agency
According to him, the political decision has been made, and the current stage concerns the coordination of technical details. In particular, we are talking about consultations on the transfer of certain information from Ukraine to the Polish side in the field of drone and missile production. These discussions are expected to last for several more weeks and may be completed by the end of January.
Onyshkevich noted that the actual transfer of the aircraft is possible as early as February. At the same time, Poland is preparing another military aid package for Ukraine, which will include, among other things, spare parts for military equipment.
Earlier, during his visit to Warsaw, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukrainian pilots are well prepared to operate the MiG-29 and do not need additional retraining. He also emphasised that Kyiv did not put any pressure on the Polish side on this issue.
According to available information, Warsaw plans to transfer six to eight MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which were to be decommissioned by the Polish Armed Forces by the end of 2025. In total, Poland has already provided Ukraine with military assistance worth more than €4 billion and continues to prepare new support packages.
