Poland scrambled military aircraft during Russia's night-time attack on Ukraine
Poland activated its military aviation and air defence systems during Russia's massive air strike on Ukraine on the night of 7 March.
This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces on social media.
According to the military, in response to the threat, the necessary forces and means of defence were deployed, in particular, combat aircraft were scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were put on high alert.
The Polish command noted that these measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at protecting the country's airspace, especially in areas located near territories that may be under threat.
"These actions are preventive and aimed at ensuring security and protecting airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to threatened territories," the headquarters said.
Approximately 20 minutes after the first announcement, the Polish military released a new statement indicating that the military aviation operation in Polish airspace had been completed.
According to the command, no violations of the country's airspace were recorded.
This is not the first time Poland has scrambled fighter jets during Russian attacks on Ukraine. The Polish military took similar measures during Russia's massive missile and drone strikes on 22 and 26 February.
