Private air defence units against Russian drones: how many targets were destroyed
This has been reported by the press office of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
According to the Ministry of Defence, air defence units from several enterprises are already carrying out combat missions as assigned. In recent months, they have shot down more than 20 Shahed-type attack drones and Zala-type reconnaissance drones.
In addition, according to the military command, one of the units has shot down a Shahed-type jet-powered attack UAV.
In total, since the start of the pilot project, 43 enterprises of various ownership structures from different sectors and regions of Ukraine have applied to the Ministry of Defence to establish their own air defence units.
Among the applicants who have already been granted authorisation to carry out air defence measures, around half are operators and critical infrastructure enterprises, whilst the remainder are private sector companies.
Private air defence in Ukraine: what is known
It is worth recalling that the idea of allowing critical enterprises to independently participate in defence against air attacks was first mooted last year, when Denys Shmyhal was head of the Ministry of Defence.
In early March 2026, the government officially gave the go-ahead for the launch of the relevant trial.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Defence reported for the first time on the successful results of private air defence units, which had already begun carrying out combat missions.
