Rescue workers have put out a forest fire in the Chernobyl exclusion zone — the second such incident since the start of July
The State Emergency Service (SES) has reported this on Telegram.
Experts have been continuously monitoring background radiation levels — the readings have not exceeded permissible limits.
Rescue workers periodically record fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In particular, one such fire broke out on 25 June following the crash of a Russian drone. The SES recorded a deterioration in air quality in Kyiv and several districts of the Kyiv region. Temperatures at the centres of the fires reached approximately 50°C.
By 3 July, four further fires had been recorded in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone — on 10 July, emergency services reported that they had extinguished the fire.
