News.LIVE reports on the rules and penalties for offenders, citing the State Fisheries Agency.
What fines face offenders
Liability depends on the severity of the offence and the extent of the damage caused to the environment:
-
Administrative fines: under Article 85 of the Code of Administrative Offences, breaches of fishing regulations incur fines ranging from 34 to 680 UAH.
-
Criminal liability: if the catch has caused significant damage, fines rise to between 1,700 and 3,400 UAH. Restriction of liberty for up to three years is also possible, with the confiscation of boats, tackle and the entire catch.
