Russia is losing contact. Border guards have destroyed a rare target worth $600,000
R-416G-MS radio relay station
Fighters from the "Phoenix" unit in the Luhansk region destroyed an R-416G-MS mobile radio relay station – equipment that provided digital communications between the Russians' frontline positions and command posts.

This has been reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

The R-416G-MS mobile radio relay station: what is known about it

The R-416G-MS is a mobile radio relay station that provides digital communication over long distances. It was first spotted in 2018.

The estimated cost of such equipment is $600,000.

According to open-source data, this is a mobile communications station based on a KamAZ truck. It provides digital communication between units at distances of up to 40 kilometres.

On the roof of the vehicle is an extendable mast with three parabolic antennas. It is this mast that transmits the signal between command posts and the front line. The first prototypes were manufactured back in 2005, but mass production began later. The Russian Armed Forces adopted the station in 2018.

Technical specifications:

  • Communication range – up to 40 km
  • Antenna height – up to 30 metres.

Prior to this, only one instance of such a station being destroyed had been confirmed – in June 2024. In other words, border guards have destroyed the second known example of this equipment since the start of the full-scale war.
