Russians have started downloading the Korean messaging app KakaoTalk en masse following the blocking of Telegram
This is reported by The Moscow Times.
The service has risen to second place in the ranking of the most popular apps in the ‘Social Networking’ category in the Russian section of the App Store, trailing only the Max messaging app.
The app has been downloaded around 10,000 times on RuStore.
According to Google Trends data, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in KakaoTalk in Russia over recent months.
Furthermore, the app has entered the top 500 free apps in Russia across all categories for the first time.
The KakaoTalk interface has been translated into Russian, so it can be used without knowledge of Korean. However, some elements remain in English, and certain parts of the interface may not be fully localised.
