Fakes are created by distorting the content of real news stories.
The Centre for Countering Disinformation has refuted reports on anonymous Telegram channels that distort official information from law enforcement agencies.

Russian propaganda continues to discredit the Ukrainian military by spreading fabricated criminal stories. This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.

According to the Centre, hostile Telegram channels spread "news" about the alleged beating and robbery of a pensioner in the Mykolaiv region, which they attributed to a former military serviceman. At the same time, the official statement of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region refers exclusively to the detention of a civilian suspected of robbery. There is no mention of this person's service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the police report.

The Centre for Countering Disinformation emphasised that such fakes are created by distorting the content of real news and adding a fictional "military" context. This tactic is typical of Russian propaganda and is aimed at creating an image of "dangerous military personnel" and undermining trust between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the civilian population.
