For members of the OCU, Easter cakes will be blessed over two consecutive days at St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv. On Saturday, 11 April, this service will be available from 4 pm to 11 pm, and on Sunday, 12 April, from 6 am to 3 pm.
The Easter Vigil service at St Michael’s Cathedral will begin on 11 April at 11.00 pm. Following the Easter Matins, the church will host the Easter Matins, the Hours and the Divine Liturgy. On Sunday, 12 April, a late Divine Liturgy is also scheduled for 09:00 and the Easter Vespers for 17:00.
The OCU’s services will be streamed on the church’s YouTube channel, its Facebook page, and on Metropolitan Epiphanius’s personal page. Separately, the broadcast will be shown on the “Suspilne Kultura” TV channel from 11 April at 23:00.
A separate schedule will apply at the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the OCU. There, Easter cakes will be blessed on 11 April from 16:00 to 21:00 and on 12 April from 07:00 to 12:00. The Easter Vigil service will begin at midnight on 12 April at the Lavra’s Church of the Exaltation of the Cross. On Easter Sunday itself, the All-Night Vigil will begin at 07:00 in the Assumption Cathedral, followed by a procession, the Easter Matins and the Easter Liturgy. At 17:00, the Great Vespers of Easter are to be held there.
For the faithful of the UGCC, Easter cakes will be blessed at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv on Saturday, 11 April, from 15:00 to 21:00. They can also be blessed on Sunday, 12 April, after the Liturgies, which will begin at 08:30 and 11:00.
The first Easter service of the UGCC will be broadcast on “Live TV” and “Suspilne Culture”. The broadcast begins at 07:00, with the Tomb Service and the Easter Matins.
Separately, the Kyiv City State Administration has urged Kyiv residents and visitors not to ignore the rules of martial law during the Easter holidays. The city administration reminded people of the curfew, the need to respond to air raid sirens, to head for shelters in case of danger, to maintain public order and to report any suspicious objects. On the eve of the holiday, letters were also sent to religious organisations asking them to take all these requirements into account during Easter services.
As a reminder, Good Friday is the day on which, according to church tradition, Jesus Christ suffered a martyr’s death. It marks the end of Holy Week and is a day of the strictest fasting. Here is what you must not do on this day.
