Russia has attacked the Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions; there are casualties and injuries
Odesa Region
On the night of 17 July, Russian forces launched a missile strike on Odesa and continued shelling other regions of Ukraine.
In Odesa, two people were killed and ten others were injured as a result of the missile attack, including children. Among the dead was a woman who was walking in a park with her children at the time of the strike. The children survived. A three-storey residential building and several cars were also damaged.
In the Odesa district, a service station building was destroyed as a result of the shelling. A fire broke out after the building was hit, which also spread to cars parked nearby. According to preliminary reports, there were no fatalities or injuries. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Zaporizhzhia Region
In the Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian army carried out 853 strikes on 58 settlements over the past 24 hours. According to the regional military administration, three people were killed and a further five, including four children, were injured. There were 111 reports of damage to homes, infrastructure, vehicles and farm buildings.
Kherson Region
In the Kherson region, Russian forces carried out strikes on 38 settlements. Eight people were injured as a result of the shelling. Four multi-storey buildings and six private houses, an administrative building, ambulances, buses and private vehicles were damaged. Ten people were evacuated from liberated communities in the region.
On the morning of 17 July, Russian forces also attacked the Korabelny district of Kherson. An elderly woman sustained fatal injuries as a result of the attack.
Donetsk region
In the Donetsk region over the past 24 hours, Russian troops killed one resident in Nadiya. A further 14 people were wounded, including 12 in Kramatorsk, one in Malotaranivka and one in Sloviansk.
Kharkiv region
In the Kharkiv region, Kharkiv and a further 23 settlements in the region came under Russian attack. According to the regional administration, one person was killed and a further 14 were wounded.
Sumy Region
In the Sumy region, Russian forces carried out more than 50 strikes over the past 24 hours on 30 settlements across 15 local communities. Eleven people were injured.
At around 03:00 on 17 July, Russian forces carried out an estimated five strikes with guided aerial bombs on the centre of Sumy and its outskirts. Over 100 windows were shattered in a block of flats. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. It is also reported that over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have used nine guided aerial bombs against Sumy. The strikes damaged blocks of flats and private residential buildings, as well as administrative and non-residential buildings. In one of the buildings in the city centre, the roof and floor slabs were destroyed, whilst 12 properties in the private sector were damaged. The day before, seven civilians, including a four-year-old child, were injured in Sumy and the surrounding area as a result of Russian attacks.
Dnipropetrovsk Region
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces attacked Dnipro and the Nikopol district more than ten times, using drones and artillery. In the Nikopol district, a private enterprise, a post office and a petrol station were damaged. In Dnipro, the attack caused a fire at a logistics company’s warehouse. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
