Russian strategic bombers carried out a 16-hour flight over the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea
Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers from Russia’s Aerospace Forces carried out a 16-hour test flight in a neutral zone over the Barents and Norwegian Seas, Reuters reported.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that during the flight, the crews practised in-flight refuelling. The flight was described as a scheduled one.
It is noted that the Russian bombers were escorted by MiG-31 fighter jets. In certain sections of the route, the missile-carrying aircraft were also escorted by fighter jets from other countries.
The Russian Defence Ministry’s statement did not specify which countries provided the escort.
In the north, Russia borders NATO member states, including Norway and Finland.
