The environmental damage caused to Ukraine by the war
The total amount of confirmed environmental damage caused to Ukraine as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion has exceeded 7 trillion hryvnias.

This has been reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.

According to the State Environmental Inspectorate, between 12 and 19 June 2026 alone, environmental damage increased by 51 billion 919 million hryvnias. The largest increase was recorded in the category of atmospheric pollution – over 51 billion 275 million hryvnias.

The bulk of this sum consists of damage caused by forest fires and the burning of vegetation – 51 billion 49 million hryvnias. Damage caused by the burning of oil, petroleum products and gas is estimated at 219.6 million UAH; damage from fires involving other objects and waste – at almost 5.96 million UAH; and damage from unorganised emissions – at 702 thousand UAH.

Losses from soil pollution and littering increased by 643.4 million UAH during the reporting week, the vast majority of which – over 643.35 million UAH – is attributable to littering. Losses from the pollution of water bodies, marine waters and unauthorised water use increased by 150,000 UAH.

The ministry emphasised that work to record environmental damage is ongoing.
