The SSU and the National Police have detained suspects in the bombing of a soldier’s car in Dnipro
The Security Service of Ukraine, in conjunction with the National Police, has arrested two perpetrators of the terrorist attack that took place in Dnipro on 7 May.
According to the investigation, at around 7.30 am in the Soborny district of the city, a parked car belonging to a member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces exploded.
Within a few hours of the explosion, law enforcement officers identified the suspects and detained them. One of the suspects was detained whilst attempting to flee abroad.
The investigation established that the suspects had placed a homemade explosive device under the car and set up a mobile phone camera nearby to record the explosion.
According to the SBU, the explosive was remotely activated via a call to the mobile phone to which the device was connected.
According to the case file, both detainees are residents of the Samarivsky district in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Investigators believe that they were looking for work via Telegram channels and agreed to carry out the task for money.
During searches of the suspects’ premises, mobile phones, SIM cards and clothing were seized, which, according to the investigation, were used during the preparation and commission of the terrorist attack.
Investigators from the Security Service have now informed the detainees that they are suspected of an offence under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ‘Terrorist act’.
The suspects are in custody. They face up to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
