The Security Service has detained the head of one of the departments at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. She is suspected of spreading pro-Russian propaganda and justifying Russia’s aggression.

The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed the head of a department at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, who is suspected of spreading pro-Russian propaganda and justifying the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

According to SSU cyber experts, the official distributed such material among colleagues and acquaintances.

Among the documented actions, she approvingly quoted public statements by the Kremlin leader, justified Russian shelling of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, in particular energy facilities in the capital, and also spread disinformation about the Defence Forces and the situation on the front line.

A linguistic analysis conducted at the initiative of the Security Service confirmed the facts of subversive information activities in favour of the Russian Federation.

During searches of the suspect’s premises, four smartphones, two laptops, a hard drive and other materials containing evidence were seized.

Investigators informed her that she was suspected of an offence under Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns the justification and recognition as lawful of the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

The penalty under this article provides for up to eight years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The investigative actions were carried out by officers of the SSU Main Directorate in Kyiv and the Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
