Serhiy Tyschenko became a Hero of Ukraine after 471 days on the front line
On Armed Forces Day, 6 December 2025, President Zelensky awarded Junior Sergeant Serhiy Tyschenko of the 30th Mechanised Brigade with the Order of the Golden Star. Decree No. 897/2025 was signed on 5 December.
From 13 August 2024 to 28 October 2025, the soldier remained at one of the positions in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region without rotation — 471 days in a row.
During this time, Tyschenko repeatedly rescued the wounded, despite the risks, destruction of shelters and combat assaults. Despite the opportunity to change positions, he remained in order to be close to his comrades.
He himself admitted that after leaving the trench, it took him a long time to get used to walking upright again — after months spent in rooms where the height in some places did not exceed one and a half metres.
