How many weapons do Ukrainians possess? The National Police have released the figures (document)
According to the National Police, as of 1 April, there were 812,000 registered owners of firearms and special equipment in Ukraine, who possess a total of 1,166,001 firearms and items of special equipment:
- 732,667 smooth-bore hunting weapons;
- 219,855 units of hunting rifled firearms;
- 192,780 domestically manufactured devices for firing cartridges loaded with rubber or similar non-lethal projectiles;
- 20,699 gas pistols and revolvers.

Furthermore, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine ‘On Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defence of Ukraine’, and with the aim of reducing the illegal circulation of firearms, ammunition and explosives, particularly military-grade weapons, the National Police of Ukraine had, as of 21 April 2026, declared 19,929 units firearms and 11,385,497 rounds of ammunition.
In particular, since the start of 2026, according to police operational records, 862 firearms have been seized from illicit circulation, and 174 reports of administrative offences have been drawn up for breaches of special rules and procedures regarding the storage and use of weapons and special equipment.
Furthermore, 1,538 decisions to refuse firearms licences have been issued in Ukraine this year.
