Sofia Rotaru refuses to perform during the war: what we know
This is reported by Ukrainian media, citing a statement by the singer’s former concert director, Sergei Lavrov.
Sofia Rotaru’s former concert director, Sergei Lavrov, has stated that the singer is refusing to perform whilst the war in Ukraine is ongoing.
According to him, the artist was recently offered a performance in Dubai for €200,000.
The offer involved performing five songs.
Lavrov claims that Rotaru turned down this offer because of the war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine.
“She was recently offered €200,000 for five songs. It was a performance in Dubai. She turned it down. She said: ‘While hostilities are ongoing, this is no time for concerts,’” Lavrov quoted Rotaru as saying.
According to him, the singer continues to receive many commercial offers.
Lavrov stated that people are phoning and offering large sums of money for her to take part in private events.
At the same time, he said, Rotaru does not want to perform.
“You can’t imagine how many. They ring up, offering large sums of money. People ring up, wanting to invite her to events. But she doesn’t want to, unfortunately, she doesn’t want to at all,” he said.
Lavrov also stated that Sofia Rotaru is currently in good health.
Earlier, the singer’s sister, Aurica Rotaru, said that Sofia Rotaru is in Kyiv.
According to her, the artist is living in her house in Koncha-Zaspa.
Aurica noted that the singer is tending to her garden and vegetable patch.
“I can tell you that she is in Kyiv, she is in Koncha-Zaspa, at her home. She is doing the same things I do – tending to the garden and vegetable patch,” said Rotaru’s sister.
She also suggested that Sofia Rotaru is unlikely to return to the stage during the war.
“And when the war is over – then we’ll see. I don’t know,” added Aurica Rotaru.
