The governments of the United States and Japan have agreed to invest $1 billion (500 million each) in the development of artificial intelligence research projects as part of a five-year plan.

This is reported by The Japan Times.

Japan has become the first country to join the US Genesis Mission project. Thanks to this, the countries will deepen their cooperation in cutting-edge scientific fields, particularly in quantum technologies, nuclear fusion and biotechnology.

The governments aim to reduce the time taken for scientific research using AI and to attract international research and development. The countries also wish to maintain their lead over China in the field of technological development.

The US and Japan will work together on joint projects involving US national laboratories and Japanese institutions, including the Riken National Research Institute and the University of Tokyo. They will develop next-generation autonomous laboratories based on AI and robotics, capable of conducting complex experiments independently.

The US government announced the launch of the Genesis Mission in early November 2025. Leading American technology companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Nvidia have joined the project.
