The US is considering the possibility of a ground operation in Iran in the near future
The US may launch a ground operation in Iran in the near future. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal journalist Alex Ward, citing several Republicans in Congress, including the chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.

According to him, his sources indicate that the operation has already been planned and could begin in the near future, though no details have been disclosed.
The US is considering the possibility of deploying marines to seize one or more islands off Iran’s southern coast. The stated aim is to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Financial Times and Newsmax have reported on the deployment of thousands of marines and warships to the Middle East. Axios has also reported that the US administration is examining scenarios for the occupation or blockade of one of the islands.
Among the possible targets is the island of Kharg, through which around 90 per cent of Iran’s crude oil exports pass. The Iranian agency Tasnim stated that any attempt to seize it could be met with an unprecedented response.
CNN reported that Iran has been strengthening its defences on the island of Kharg in recent weeks, notably deploying additional forces and setting up traps.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has stated that he seeks to avoid a protracted war and to bring the conflict to an end in the coming weeks. According to sources close to him, he believes the war is in its final stages and is aiming for a timeframe of four to six weeks.
Despite this, there is no unified position in the US on how to proceed. Some in the president’s inner circle advocate increasing pressure on Iran and even regime change, whilst others warn of the risk of a protracted conflict.
Trump does not rule out the possibility of deploying troops, but at the same time expresses concern about a potential rise in casualties among American troops. According to available information, around 300 soldiers have been wounded and 13 killed.
The President is also showing interest in a diplomatic settlement. Mediators in the Middle East are exchanging initial proposals between Tehran and Washington, and the US side has stated its readiness for further negotiations.
At the same time, the US continues to strengthen its military presence in the region to keep options open for various scenarios, including the conduct of limited operations.
No final decision has yet been taken on whether to launch a ground operation.
