The ‘airport truce’ is not the only option: Kyiv has outlined two further possible formats
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga made this statement during a conversation with journalists.
Ukraine is ready to discuss the possibility of local ceasefire arrangements with Russia together with its European partners.
According to Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, this is not just about an ‘airport’ ceasefire. Among the possible formats, Kyiv is also considering an ‘energy’ and ‘port’ ceasefire.
“This also needs to be discussed with the Russian side. It could be an ‘airport’ ceasefire, it could be an ‘energy’ ceasefire, it could be a ‘port’ ceasefire,” Sibiga noted.
What Kyiv is proposing
The Foreign Minister emphasised that Ukraine is not proposing a broad ceasefire format straight away.
According to him, Kyiv’s key position is to select one specific case and work through it within a defined timeframe.
Such an approach, as Sibiga explained, is intended to demonstrate whether this track can be effective.
The minister said that the issue of local ceasefire formats is planned to be discussed in detail at a meeting with the foreign ministers of European Union member states.
The European track of negotiations
Sibiga had previously stated that Ukraine likely needs a new role for Europe in the peace negotiations.
He explained this by the fact that the diplomatic process under US auspices has slowed down, and the Russian dictator is not showing any willingness to reach a broader agreement to end the war.
At the same time, the Kremlin threatened a series of strikes on Kyiv and urged foreigners to leave the city.
The Institute for the Study of War explained that such threats are not a response to Ukraine’s actions, but rather stem from the aggressor country’s own failures.
What Sibiga said about Russia’s threats
Sibiga also stated that the remarks made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding possible strikes on Kyiv constitute a blatant provocation.
According to the minister, such statements demonstrate the Kremlin’s interest in prolonging the war.
As reported by ThePublic, Sibiga commented on the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia.
