The bodies of 528 victims have been returned to Ukraine
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The identification process lies ahead
The statement notes that law enforcement investigators, together with forensic experts, will carry out all necessary procedures to establish the identities of the deceased. The repatriation was carried out with the participation of representatives from the Coordination Headquarters, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the State Emergency Service (SES), the Ombudsman’s Office and other security and defence sector bodies. The Coordination Headquarters also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance in carrying out the repatriation measures.
The bodies will be transported to specialised facilities
The transport of the repatriated deceased is being carried out by personnel from the Joint Centre for Civil-Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The bodies will subsequently be handed over to representatives of law enforcement agencies, forensic medical services and other relevant agencies for identification and further procedures.
