President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a ‘very important development’ in defence cooperation with Germany.

He said this in response to questions from journalists, according to hromadske.

Zelenskyy explained that it was Ukraine that had initiated the creation of a European anti-ballistic missile system.

“To achieve this, we need to work in coalition with our partners, their companies, national security agencies and leaders. And today we are set to witness a very important event: German representatives will be able to share with the Ukrainians what we need, and we will share what they need in order to take the first step towards a future anti-ballistic missile system,” said the president.

Zelenskyy announced that the allies had prepared new aid packages ahead of the ‘Ramstein’ meeting.

“First and foremost, these are the issues of PURL, air defence, the Patriot system and anti-ballistic missiles. Nine, ten, eleven – roughly that many countries currently support the new PURL packages. God willing, may we succeed in everything, and may we receive such significant support from such a significant number of countries,” he said.

As a reminder, we previously discussed whether there is an alternative to the Patriot air defence systems in Ukraine, and what their key advantage is.
