The longest solar eclipse of the 21st century: when it will take place and where it will be visible
This is according to Radio Track.
Where the eclipse will be visible
The path of totality will pass through southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East. The longest duration of the eclipse will be observed near the Egyptian city of Luxor.
It is during the total phase that the solar corona will be visible, as well as the brightest stars and some planets, which will appear in the daytime sky.
Why will the eclipse last more than six minutes?
Astronomers attribute this unusual duration to a rare combination of several astronomical factors. At the time of the eclipse, the Moon will be relatively close to Earth, so its apparent disc will be larger. At the same time, the Earth will be near its aphelion — the point in its orbit where the Sun appears slightly smaller. Furthermore, the Moon’s shadow will pass over the tropics, where its speed relative to the Earth’s surface is lower, which will also increase the duration of the total phase.
How to observe the Sun without risking your eyesight
Experts remind us that looking at the Sun without special certified filters is dangerous. It is only safe to do so without protective eyewear during the total phase of the eclipse and only in places where the Sun is completely obscured by the Moon. For all other stages of the eclipse, you must use special solar filters or glasses designed for such observations.
