The police have revealed the cause of death of Vladimir Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Brigade
The Joint Command ‘South’ reported the death of Volodymyr Kononnikov. Details regarding the circumstances of his death were released by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Police.
What happened to Vladimir Kononnikov
On 28 June, the Joint Command ‘South’ reported that Colonel Vladimir Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanised Brigade, had been found showing no signs of life.
Initially, the command stated that, according to preliminary information, no signs of violence had been found. At the same time, they emphasised that final conclusions could only be drawn once the investigation had been completed.
Later, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Police reported that the commander of one of the military units had been found dead with a gunshot wound.
Law enforcement officers have opened a criminal case under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional homicide. This legal classification is traditionally applied at the initial stage of an investigation into a death so that investigators can examine all possible versions of events.

Law enforcement officers are currently carrying out initial investigative measures and establishing all the circumstances surrounding the military officer’s death.
An internal investigation has also been launched.
Statement from the ‘South’ Joint Command
The ‘South’ Joint Command stated that it is providing full cooperation to the law enforcement agencies.
They also called on the media and the public not to circulate unverified information and to respect the privacy of the deceased’s family.
Who was Volodymyr Kononnikov?
Colonel Volodymyr Kononnikov commanded the 154th Separate Mechanised Brigade.
The Joint Command “South” described him as an officer devoted to Ukraine and a responsible commander who cared for his personnel and the needs of his military unit.
The command and service personnel expressed their condolences to the colonel’s family, loved ones and comrades-in-arms.
