In Mukachevo, police have arrested a 62-year-old local man suspected of attempting to murder his neighbour. According to the investigation, the man stabbed the victim twice in the entrance hall of a block of flats

This was reported by the police in Zakarpattia Oblast.

What is known about the attack

The incident took place on the night of 27–28 June in one of the blocks of flats on Vasyl Stus Street. Local residents contacted the police to report that a man had been stabbed.

According to preliminary information, there had been a long-standing feud between the 62-year-old and 40-year-old neighbours.

Investigators established that the older of the two men had waited for his neighbour on the landing and stabbed him twice — in the stomach and chest. After the attack, the victim ran out of the building in an attempt to escape. The attacker ran after him, but his actions were noticed by witnesses on the street.

The victim was taken to hospital.

The suspect was arrested

Police arrested a 62-year-old man at his home and, according to their reports, seized the weapon used in the crime — a knife.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the attack under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted murder). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
