The bank’s former board chairman has been notified that he is under suspicion of illegal financial transactions amounting to 210 million hryvnias
The former chairman of the board of one of Ukraine’s banks has been notified that he is under investigation in a case involving illegal banking transactions totalling over 210 million hryvnias.
According to the investigation, the official conspired with a businessman to ensure the unhindered opening of accounts, the carrying out of high-risk financial transactions and the circumvention of internal financial monitoring.
Investigators believe that, in the event of inspections by the State Financial Monitoring Service, the banker was prepared to provide the necessary assistance.
For these services, according to law enforcement officials, a fee of 0.15 per cent of the total value of monthly transactions was agreed.
Between July 2024 and February 2025, over 210 million hryvnias were channelled through the accounts of at least five controlled companies. According to the investigation, the suspect received a specified share for each transaction.
Law enforcement agencies have also documented correspondence between those involved in the case. According to the investigation, in this correspondence they verified amounts, agreed on fund transfers, and, once the payments had been made, the businessman sent confirmation of the transactions.
The former chairman of the bank’s board has been notified that he is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit.
The businessman will also face legal proceedings for offering an unlawful benefit to a public official.
The issue of imposing a preventive measure is currently being decided.
