The Russian Federation’s large-scale attack on Kyiv has claimed the lives of 11 people; rescue workers are continuing to clear the rubble
On the night of 2 July, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv. Extensive damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure has been reported in the capital.
As of now, 11 deaths have been confirmed in Kyiv. It is also known that over 30 people have been injured. The number of casualties continues to rise, with people still seeking help.
Clean-up operations following the strikes are ongoing. There are 570 rescue workers and over 125 pieces of equipment from the State Emergency Service working at the scenes. Emergency services are continuing their work at the affected locations.
The Darnytskyi district has been hardest hit by the Russian strikes. Part of a nine-storey residential block there has been destroyed. Rescue workers are continuing search and rescue operations and clearing the rubble.
Seventeen people have been rescued from this site. Seven of them were pulled from the rubble. One person has died. There are also reports of people missing.
The site of the rescue operations and the damaged buildings are under police guard. Investigators are taking statements from victims at the operational headquarters that have been set up.
In total, more than 20 residential buildings in Kyiv were damaged as a result of the overnight shelling. Rescue workers are continuing to operate at 15 locations.
Earlier reports indicated significant destruction in the Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, Pecherskyi, Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Desnianskyi districts of the capital. Fires have been recorded in the city, along with the destruction of high-rise buildings, private homes and other civilian infrastructure.
