The State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine plans to develop a domestic industrial base for cryptographic solutions and to support research institutions.

This was announced by the head of the agency, Oleksandr Potii.

It is noted that maintaining state control over encryption technologies is a prerequisite for the country’s digital sovereignty and security.

The need for domestic production stems from the fact that international partners do not grant Ukraine full access to their proprietary encryption systems, limiting access to specific instances without the right to manage them.

Consequently, the communication channels through which classified information is transmitted must be equipped with domestic hardware, with control over the entire chain of encryption material production.

“Today, Ukraine enjoys a unique status, as it is one of a small number of states capable of independently implementing a closed cycle for the creation of its own cryptographic tools. The absence of state oversight in this area makes it impossible to ensure the complete secrecy of strategic state communications and the protection of citizens’ confidential data,” stated the head of the State Special Communications Service.

The main obstacle to the industry’s industrial development is a lack of funding. The agency plans to urge the government to increase investment in this sector, emphasising that the required sums are smaller than the cost of purchasing weapons, yet are crucial for national security.

What was that? An unidentified object was spotted flying over Kyiv at night (video)

Late in the evening of 19 April, a bright object was spotted streaking across the sky above Kyiv. Social media users agreed that it was either a meteor or a comet — the Lyrid meteor shower is currently underway. However, some suggested that it was linked to the launch of an American rocket into space.
