Every year, the summer solstice occurs on 20 or 21 June in the Northern Hemisphere and on 21 or 22 December in the Southern Hemisphere.

The summer solstice festival, which heralded the arrival of summer, was extremely popular in pagan times. On this day, rituals were performed to attract good fortune, happiness and health.
