The Ukrainian Armed Forces High Command has denied reports of a ban on interviews with military personnel
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What the General Staff explained
The General Staff emphasised that no orders or directives had been issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the General Staff prohibiting military personnel from interacting with journalists.
The Armed Forces noted that matters relating to cooperation with the media are governed by current regulatory documents, in particular the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine’s order on information policy under martial law and the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which sets out the procedure for interaction between the military and media representatives.
What issues were covered by the latest directives?
The General Staff explained that certain operational directives, which are periodically issued to the troops, are intended to clarify the procedure for disseminating information during wartime.
In particular, the most recent such directive concerned exclusively the reporting of changes in the operational situation in combat zones and was aimed at ensuring the safety of troops and protecting sensitive information.
The General Staff emphasised that this document does not impose any restrictions on public statements, interviews or other forms of communication between military personnel and the media.
