The WBC has sanctioned a title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Agit Kabayev
The World Boxing Council has sanctioned a title fight between world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC interim champion Agit Kabayev of Germany.
This was announced by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman on Pro Box TV.
According to the organisation’s decision, Oleksandr Usyk must fight the German challenger to retain his status as unified world champion.
Should he refuse to fight Agit Kabayel, the Ukrainian boxer will be forced to relinquish the WBC title, which is one of the three major championship belts he holds in the heavyweight division.
As a reminder, on 24 May, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Dutchman Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round and retained his WBA, WBC, IBF and The Ring magazine titles.
