Three championship belts and a special WBC award are at stake
The bout will be held under professional boxing rules. Usyk will defend his WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight championship belts. However, should the Ukrainian lose, the titles will not pass to Verhoeven, as the Dutch boxer is not currently ranked by any boxing organisation. In addition to the championship belts, the winner will receive a special WBC belt known as the ‘King of the Nile’.

Kyivstar TV has become the official broadcaster of the boxing event in Ukraine. Viewers will also be shown pre-fight events, including the press conference on 21 May and the weigh-in ceremony on 22 May. The broadcast will be available to users with a subscription to the Premium HD package and other sports tariffs offered by the service. The main fight of the evening is expected to start at approximately 23:45 Kyiv time.
Usyk will face a representative of another martial art for the first time
For Usyk, this bout will be the first of his career against an athlete who is not a professional boxer. The 39-year-old Ukrainian remains undefeated in the professional ring. He has 24 wins from 24 fights, 15 of which ended in a knockout. Usyk fought his last bout in July 2025. On that occasion, he defeated Daniel Dubois by knockout and became the undisputed world champion for the third time in his career
