Trump described talks with European leaders on Ukraine as quite tough
US President Donald Trump told reporters that his telephone conversation with the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany and France on the situation in Ukraine took place in a rather tense atmosphere. According to the head of the White House, the parties had certain disagreements on individual issues and he is now awaiting a response from his partners in order to move forward.
Trump noted that European leaders had proposed holding a meeting this coming weekend to discuss peace initiatives for Ukraine. The US has not yet decided whether to participate, awaiting additional information from its partners.
Spokespersons for the German and French governments confirmed that a joint conversation between Macron, Starmer and Trump took place on Wednesday. The leaders discussed the state of negotiations on a possible truce and noted that the current moment is critical for Ukraine and the security of the Euro-Atlantic space. Work on the peace plan will continue in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Trump has again hinted that he wants to distance himself from the conflict, for which he blames his predecessor Joe Biden. He said that further decisions will require weighing the risks, as the war is costing thousands of lives every week.
