Turkey to send fighter jets to Estonia and Romania as part of NATO mission
Turkey plans to deploy combat aircraft in Estonia and Romania as part of NATO's enhanced air patrol mission. This was announced by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence during a weekly briefing, when it released the calendar of upcoming rotations for 2026–2027, Nefes reports.
According to the plan, the Turkish Air Force will carry out tasks in Estonia for four months, from August to November 2026. After that, Ankara will join another rotation in Romania, which will last from December 2026 to March 2027.
The Turkish Defence Ministry emphasised that the country has long made a significant contribution to the Alliance's air missions. Their goal is to ensure the security of the allies' airspace in peacetime.
Turkey has participated in similar missions before. In particular, in Poland in July and September 2021, as well as in Romania from November 2023 to April 2024.
The new deployment is planned against the backdrop of NATO's increased air defence measures due to the reported increase in violations of allies' airspace by Russia. Turkey is also expected to host the next NATO summit in July.
