Turkey says it is ready to send troops to establish peace in Palestine
Turkey is ready to join international peacekeeping efforts in the region if such a decision is made at the intergovernmental level. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a speech on the escalating situation around Gaza, The Public reports with reference to Turkiyetoday.
Fidan stressed that Ankara supports the creation of a multinational mechanism that would ensure a ceasefire, humanitarian corridors and further political agreements between the parties to the conflict. He emphasised that Turkey has been involved in peacekeeping operations for many years and is ready to contribute to the stabilisation of the Middle East.
According to him, Ankara's position is based on the principle of an immediate end to violence and guaranteeing the rights of the Palestinian population. Turkey also supports a format in which decisions on peace will be made with the participation of key regional actors.
Fidan stressed that the international community must act quickly as the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate. He reminded that Turkey has already sent tens of tonnes of humanitarian aid, as well as medical teams to support the civilian population.
Ankara says it is ready to do more if it helps to stop the escalation and move to negotiations on a long-term solution to the conflict.
