Turkey has responded to the attack on its merchant vessel in the Black Sea
According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the morning of 22 June, a vessel owned by a Turkish company and flying the Panamanian flag was struck by drones near Chornomorsk.
As a result of the attack, two crew members — Turkish nationals — were injured. Their condition and the details of the incident are currently being clarified.
It is also reported that the Turkish Embassy in Kyiv and the Consulate-General in Odesa are monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts regarding the injured.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that it had already informed the parties to the conflict of its position and concerns.
“Our concerns regarding these strikes, which threaten our interests in the Black Sea and regional security as a result of the escalation in the Russian-Ukrainian war, have been communicated to the authorities of both countries. Ensuring the safety of civilian shipping in the Black Sea remains one of our country’s key priorities. We call on all relevant parties to take measures to de-escalate tensions in the region,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated.
