Power supply gradually restored in Berlin after cables were set on fire
In the south-western district of Berlin Lichterfelde, power engineers have partially restored power supply after a cable bridge was damaged. According to the operator Stromnetz Berlin, about 7,000 households and 150 business customers have been reconnected to the grid. Another 3,000 households are expected to be supplied with electricity during the day. This was reported by The Public with reference to DW.
At the same time, about 38,000 households and almost 2,000 commercial customers remain without electricity. Full power supply is expected to be restored by Thursday, 8 January. To do this, a temporary high-voltage line is being built in the Dalem district
The large-scale outage was caused by a fire on a cable bridge over the Teltov Canal, which damaged several lines supplying the Lichterfelde power plant. Police are investigating the incident as an arson attack. The Berlin authorities confirmed that the left-wing extremist group Vulkangruppe claimed responsibility for the sabotage, but the motives for the attack are still under investigation
