The first large-scale non-fiction study on the work of Ukraine's military intelligence is presented in Kyiv
On 20 January, Kyiv will host the presentation of the book "The Island of GUR. Secrets. Operations. War," which is called the first major non-fiction study dedicated to the activities of Ukrainian military intelligence. The event was announced by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The presentation will take place at the Sens bookstore with the participation of the book's author, journalist Maksym Butchenko, and will be moderated by writer Andriy Kokotyukha. The publication has already become a bestseller at its publishing house. The book contains testimonies from current and former military intelligence officers, most of whom remain anonymous for security reasons.
The author describes key events and decisions that influenced the course of the full-scale war, including special operations behind enemy lines, the defence of Kyiv, the battles for Hostomel, the use of naval drones, strikes on targets at a considerable distance, and intelligence work in temporarily occupied territories. The foreword to the book was written by Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, former head of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
