Law enforcement officers quickly identified the author of the false report, which could have had serious consequences for the security of the capital.

In Mykolaiv, police detained a man who reported an alleged bomb plot at one of the Kyiv metro stations. This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Police on their official Facebook page.

According to law enforcement officials, on 26 January, the 112 emergency line received a call from a man who claimed to have several kilograms of explosives and was planning to carry out an explosion in the Kyiv metro. The report was immediately registered, after which an investigation was launched.

Within a few hours, operatives from Police Station No. 1 of the Mykolaiv District Administration, together with employees of the regional administration of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and criminal analysts, established that the call was made by a 45-year-old resident of Mykolaiv. At the time of the call, he was at his home.

During a search of the home, law enforcement officers did not find any explosive devices or substances. The man was unable to explain the motives for his actions.

The suspect was detained and charged under Part 2 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — knowingly false reporting of an explosion. The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to eight years.
