Ukraine has received a 150-tonne transformer worth $4.3 million from international partners
Ukraine has received another high-capacity autotransformer for its power grid, funded by donor assistance from international partners.
The equipment was funded by a grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development under a direct contract between NPC Ukrenergo and the manufacturer. The equipment is intended to replace components damaged by Russian shelling and is vital for the stable operation of the electricity transmission system.
The cost of the autotransformer exceeds US$4.3 million. Production was fully funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Vitaliy Zaychenko, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, noted that the manufacture of transformers of this type is a lengthy process. According to him, preparations for the next heating season began as early as the end of the previous winter, and building up stocks of repair equipment remains a key priority against the backdrop of constant attacks on the power grid.
The United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, with the support of the Danish government, played a key role in the delivery of the equipment by organising and funding the logistics. Transporting a transformer weighing over 150 tonnes and standing nearly 5 metres tall required special arrangements, as such equipment cannot be transported via all roads and bridges.
NPC Ukrenergo thanked its international partners for their assistance, which helps to strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian power grid.
