Judge Petro Tyshkun explained that the statistics on alimony collection in lawsuits do not show the full picture.
According to him, plaintiffs often choose a faster method - collection based on court orders.
"Most alimony is collected on the basis of court orders, where the collector has two options to choose from: to collect a fixed amount of money, which is 50% of the subsistence minimum for a child of the corresponding age, or alimony as a share of the debtor's earnings, which is 1/4, 1/3 or 1/2 share. However, because many payers show only minimal official income, the amount of payments often remains minimal," said Judge Petro Tyshkun.
At the same time, a court decision alone does not guarantee the actual payment of alimony.
At the end of 2025, there were more than 208,000 cases of alimony debt in Ukraine.
Over the year, this category of the Debtors Register grew by 1,172 cases, despite the fact that new cases were simultaneously added to and closed from the register throughout the year.
In 91% of cases, the debtors are men.
At the same time, the article notes that one person may be involved in several cases.
