Ukraine has waived payments for damaged homes: who is eligible for relief
Bill No. 13155, supported by 308 MPs, provides for the protection of citizens from having to pay for the management of housing that has become unfit for habitation as a result of the war.
Who will be affected by these changes?
Owners of housing damaged by shelling and rendered uninhabitable will be able to obtain exemption from payments for the management of multi-unit residential buildings. Consumers will not be obliged to pay for management services if their housing has become uninhabitable as a result of hostilities.
The process for exemption from payments
To take advantage of this benefit, you must undergo an official inspection of your property. This will automatically stop charges from being applied or reduce them to a minimum.
Protection for owners of damaged homes
Parliament notes that this law establishes a clear mechanism to protect owners of homes rendered uninhabitable by the war. Consequently, citizens will no longer be forced to pay for services relating to destroyed homes, which will significantly ease their financial burden during these difficult times.
As a reminder, new rules for the construction of private housing have come into force in Ukraine, which simultaneously simplify procedures for small houses and tighten requirements regarding the rights of neighbours. In particular, the building permit requirement has been abolished for properties up to 200 square metres, but at the same time, structures and fences that block sunlight or impair ventilation on neighbouring plots have been banned.
