Ukraine received its first shipment of American LNG in 2026
The first shipment of American liquefied natural gas in 2026 has arrived in Ukraine. The delivery was organised by the Naftogaz Group in partnership with the Polish state-owned company ORLEN. This was announced by the chairman of the board of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretsky.
According to him, at the end of January, almost 100 million cubic metres of LNG were delivered to the terminal in Świnoujście, Poland, after which the gas was already fed into the Ukrainian gas transmission system. This volume is sufficient to meet the winter consumption of approximately 700,000 households for a month.
Naftogaz emphasises that additional volumes of imported gas are critically important against the backdrop of extreme cold weather and constant Russian attacks on gas and energy infrastructure. The company is working systematically with international partners to ensure the availability of resources for a stable heating season.
In total, Ukraine plans to import up to 1 billion cubic metres of liquefied gas from the United States in 2026. The next batches of American LNG have already been contracted and are expected to arrive in February and March.
As previously reported, in 2025, Naftogaz imported 5.7 billion cubic metres of gas to ensure the heating season.
